Kittsy Vial Flor
This lovely soul is Kittsy Vial Flor.
We met in 2016 during a 10-day silent meditation course in Argentina.
There are less than a handful of people I have come across in life that have a certain type of energy.
An intense energy that makes you gravitate towards them.
Kittsy is one of those people.
During the 10 day Vipassana course we were forbidden from speaking to one another, advised to avoid eye contact, and yet I was drawn to her.
She had such a radiant and vibrant light about her, it was magnetic.
No matter where she was in the room my gaze shifted towards her.
Who is she? What was her story? My mind constantly seemed to wonder.
On the last day of the course, we were permitted to speak to one another.
There were over 100 students in the course and everybody wanted to to talk to everybody, but time was limited, so our conversations were brief.
However, we exchanged contact info and became friends on Facebook.
After a few months of following her on social media, I realized what an amazing singer she was.
I was blown away by her talent and felt inspired to share it with the world.
In that moment the idea for our International Artist Spotlight features was born.
So for our first ever feature, we introduce to you, Kittsy Vial Flor.

When Kittsy Vial opens her mouth and begins her song, she sings with the clarity of a warm wind.
Her voice is surrounding and reminiscent of shamanistic harmonies that I've only truly experienced in Latin America.
As the daughter of an Andean Folklorist and songstress mother, Kittsy Vial has been constantly surrounded by the melodies of Chilean Folk and Latin American tribal singing.
Her musical history is nothing short of enchanting, her first band Matista effortlessly captivates with a sound slightly reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac.
While listening to their first EP I could hear Kittsy's incredibly clear vocals immediately.
She has the natural ability to harmonize her voice in a way that does not hide but amplifies her skill.
The band itself explores deeply the beauty in layering and arranging the wide collection of instruments, and Kittsy’s harmonies weave it all together.
Her time with the band Ñañitay, which she describes as, “an exploration of medicinal singing or shamanic singing” was exactly that.
Ñañitay’s feminine shamanic harmonics immediately register with what I would consider to be healing frequencies.
Kittsy’s incredible tone shines through here as well, along with her knowledge of tribal percussion.
Kittsy’s current band ‘Ayünity’ is heavily influenced by reggae music and an excellent instrumental accompaniment to her unique vocal clarity.
While watching the “Ital Acustico- SOMA” session, I found her movements to be as naturally elegant as her vocal skill.
As she strolls down the streets of a plaza on what looks to be a warm summer night, I am immediately transported there and captivated by the precision of her tone.
When asked what inspires her songs, she responds with the most fitting answer,
“What inspires me to compose first of all else, is the expression of the earth, mountains, forests, deserts, rivers, the elements.”
I can hear her explanation in her voice, I hear the beauty of her surroundings, the richness in her cultural traditions.
When I first experienced Kittsy Vial, it was so apparent that her song and the song of the earth are one in the same.
She understands the power of her song and its innate ability to connect through language and geographical borders.
She also explained, “I am inspired by people, the people I meet in my travels or in front of a fire sharing songs and dancing, the spaces for sharing culture”
Kittsy brings you to that fire surrounded by travelers, her voice is the warm wind that surrounds you in nature.
Listen to Kittsy in any of her three iterations, when you are deep in the woods, surrounded by luscious jungle, or wandering through a moonlit desert, her voice will bring you closer to the place where you find yourself.
Esta hermosa alma es Kittsy Vial Flor. Nos conocimos en 2016 en un curso de meditación en Argentina. Hay menos de un puñado de personas con las que me he encontrado en la vida que tienen algún tipo de energía. Una energía intensa que te hace gravitar hacia ellos. Kittsy es una de esas personas. Durante los 10 días del curso de Vipassana nos prohibieron hablar entre nosotros, nos aconsejaron que evitáramos el contacto visual y, sin embargo, me sentí atraída por ella. Tenía una luz tan radiante y vibrante que era magnética. No importaba dónde estuviera en la habitación, mi mirada se dirigía hacia ella. ¿Quién es ella? ¿Cuál era su historia? Mi mente se preguntaba constantemente.
El último día del curso, se nos permitió hablar entre nosotros. Había más de 100 estudiantes en el curso y todos querían hablar con todos, pero el tiempo era limitado, así que nuestras conversaciones fueron breves. Sin embargo, intercambiamos información de contacto y nos hicimos amigos en Facebook. Después de unos meses de seguirla en los medios sociales, me di cuenta de que era una cantante increíble. Me sorprendió su talento y me sentí inspirada para compartir su música con el mundo. Así nació la idea de nuestros reportajes de Artista Internacionales. Cuando Kittsy Vial abre la boca y comienza su canción, canta con la claridad de un viento cálido. Su voz es envolvente y evocadora de armonías chamánicas que sólo he experimentado verdaderamente en América Latina, y como hija de un folclorista Andino y una madre a la que le encantaba cantar. Ella dijo “Mi madre siempre me canto, ella canta en la vida, mientras cocina mientras vive!” Kittsy Vial ha estado constantemente rodeada de las melodías del folclore chileno y del canto tribal latinoamericano.
Su historia musical es nada menos que encantadora, su primera banda Matista cautiva sin esfuerzo con un sonido que recuerda ligeramente a Fleetwood Mac. Mientras escuchaba su primer EP pude escuchar las increíbles voces claras de Kittsy inmediatamente. Ella tiene la habilidad natural de armonizar su voz de una manera que no oculta sino que amplifica su habilidad.
La propia banda explora profundamente la belleza de las capas y los arreglos de la amplia colección de instrumentos, y las armonías de Kittsy lo entretejen todo: su tiempo con la banda Ñañitay, a la que describe como "una exploración del canto medicina o chamánico" fue exactamente eso. Los armónicos chamánicos femeninos de Ñañitay se registran inmediatamente con lo que yo consideraría frecuencias curativas. El increíble tono de Kittsy también brilla por aquí, junto con su conocimiento de la percusión tribal.
La actual banda de Kittsy, Ayunity, está fuertemente influenciada por la música reggae y un excelente acompañamiento instrumental para su claridad vocal única. Mientras veía la sesión "Ital Acustico- SOMA", descubrí que sus movimientos eran tan naturalmente elegantes como su habilidad vocal. Mientras ella camina por las calles de una plaza en lo que parece ser una cálida noche de verano, soy inmediatamente transportado allí y cautivado por la precisión de su tono.
Cuando se le pregunta qué inspira sus canciones, responde con la respuesta más adecuada: "Lo que me inspira a componer, en primer lugar, es la expresión de la tierra, las montañas, los bosques, los desiertos, los ríos, los elementos". Oigo su explicación en su voz, oigo la belleza de su entorno, la riqueza de sus tradiciones culturales.
Cuando experimenté por primera vez Kittsy Vial, era tan evidente que su canción y la canción de la tierra son una sola cosa. Ella entiende el poder de su canción y su habilidad innata para conectarse a través del lenguaje y las fronteras geográficas. También explicó: “Me inspira la gente, las personas que encuentro en mis viajes, cantando frente a un fuego o en circulos de canto y danza, espacios para compartir la cultura", Kittsy te lleva a ese fuego rodeado de viajeros, su voz es ese viento cálido que envuelve esos momentos.
Escucha a Kittsy en cualquiera de sus tres iteraciones, cuando estés en lo profundo del bosque, rodeado de una selva deliciosa, o deambulando por un desierto iluminado por la luna, su voz te acercará al lugar donde te encuentras.
